For a travel destination packed with history, culture, food, and awe-inspiring architecture, Malacca is the place to go. The Malaysian coastal state is located next to the Strait of Malacca, in the southwest of the Malay Peninsula. Named a historic city in 1989, in 2008 the state was further declared to be a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its deep historical significance that is worthy of preservation.

No visit to Malacca is complete without a visit to some of its heritage sites, which includes war memorial sites, religious buildings, and museums. These hold the memories of Malacca’s war history and colonial roots, with influences from the Portuguese, Dutch, and British. Not to forget, Malacca itself is home to a diverse mix of peoples such as the indigenous Orang Asli and Chinese settlers. This mix of cultures makes Malacca a perfect melting pot of customs, food and religion.

You will be able to find churches and mosques co-existing in the city, along with various racial groups and their respective cuisines. The iconic church to visit is the red-bricked Christ Church of Malacca, which is an impressive-looking 18-century Anglican church that is still active today. The mosque to see is the floating Melaka Straits Mosque, which looks absolutely magical against the horizon on the Straits of Malacca. Apart from being amazing photo opportunities, their spectacular architecture and historical significance are nothing sort of awe-inspiring.

You can learn about the culture of the Peranakan people in the Baba & Nyonya Heritage Museum, and get a taste of signature Nyonya dishes with a homemade vibe at a nearby restaurant. More food awaits you at Jonker Walk, a famous night market in Malacca, where you can also pick up souvenirs and knick-knacks at bargain prices. Fill yourself with hearty local fare at hawker stalls cooking up nasi lemak, laksa, and chicken rice for the true taste of Malaysia. If you prefer to sit back and while away the afternoon, the city is also home to a number of modern and eclectic cafes. Find one that’s right up your alley and relax with a cuppa in an ultimately Intagrammable location.

Just a 3-hour bus ride away, Malacca is an excellent and convenient travel destination for those looking for a meaningful city to explore. To make it even easier to visit, you can opt for a tour package that covers your transport to Malacca’s top attractions. Soak in the unique culture of Malaysia’s historical city, and lap up its tourist offerings with ample food and shopping opportunities.
